The Blackwood Basin Group is the only Australian group to be awarded this international prize and the group has shown its commitment to natural resource management and community resilience in the long term by creating the Foundation, Mr Albrecht continued. The Blackwood River Foundations Strategic Plan outlines where it will invest in the 22,000 square kilometre catchment of the Blackwood River. |

The aim of restoring the river is particularly appropriate for the integrity of the southwestern corner of the continent. The goal of increasing the range of marron from Augusta to Kojonup is both achievable and admirable, as an indicator of water quality, and as an asset so much enjoyed by the community, Mr Albrecht concluded. |

Chairman of the BRF, Mr David Reid, said the hard work the Board had invested developing the Strategic Plan will pave the way for broad industry and community involvement in the future of the river. As the International Riversymposium is being held in WA for the first time this year it provides the opportunity to showcase the outstanding achievements of the communities of the Blackwood River, Mr Reid said. The Blackwood River Foundation is an organisation established to attract funding and invest in healthy catchments, waterways and communities of the Blackwood River in the long term. Donations to the Blackwood River Foundation are fully tax deductible. |
